TANZANIA
Tanzania is Kenya's neighbor to the south and offers a very similar wildlife experience with a few additional destinations before or after your safari. Tanzania's primary game reserve, the Serengeti, is the southern (and larger) part of an Ecosystem that includes Kenya's Maasai Mara. Supposedly Lion's have a higher concentration in the Maasai Mara area, however, I can't imagine it's too significant of a difference from the Serengeti. On the way to the Serengeti you will pass Ngorongoro Crater, which is it's own Ecosystem too. A giant plain exists within a large caldera and while animals may come and go as they please, most spend their entire lives in this area.
I think Tanzania has a few more before and after safari options as well. It's possible to add on a Mt. Kilimanjaro climb or head down to Dar es Salaam, then over to Zanzibar to see Stonetown and Jambiani. Kenya's beach resort towns around the Mombasa area don't seem to have the same picturesque white sand, blue green water and exotic feel, although to be fair I did little research on the area.
When I went on safari we traveled back and forth between Tanzania and Kenya which adds quite a bit of travel time and border crossing delays. I think spending the entire time in Tanzania or Kenya would be a better option with a limited time budget. It's a tough call and if you are traveling here for the wildlife experience then you definitely want to maximize that part of the trip but if you are looking for a broader perspective and experience with a local cultural flavor Tanzania may have a bit more to offer.
