So here's the thing with South Dakota...it's kind of touristy. Wall Drug. Bear Country. Reptile World. Dead Wood. The Corn Palace. Mt. Rushmore. Crazy Horse. In hind sight these places are all tourist traps. All great tourist traps but still tourist traps. Worthy of a cross-country trip but still tourist traps.
My brother and I spent a night in Chamberlain, on a campsite on a bluff above the Missouri River. A river hurricane came through the night - easily the most terrifying travel experience of my life. We read the news the next day and we went through a once a decade storm. The tent wrapped around our bodies. It was crazy. |
