I loved Piran. I miss Piran. I think about Piran a lot.
The thing with Piran is this...you're only ever visiting Piran on an extended European or an around-the-world trip and intentionally venture to off-the-beaten-path locations. That's what makes Piran wonderful. All these other, well-trodden locations, Piran is them without the crowds. And yeah, you could say that for a lot of Eastern Europe, for the Balkans, etc. But Piran's on the coast. And after navigating crowds up and down Croatia, it was such a nice respite. Wish I had spent a week here.

The only knock on Piran is that it is small. You can wander around a bit. Get lost. Get found. But then not get lost again. It's beautiful during the day. It's beautiful at night.
There're some nooks and crannies that lead to small beaches and waterfront dining.
There's an old town section and farther down the coast, towards Croatia is the town or area of Portoroz. The locals seemed to favor Portoroz over Piran's old town.
