Orchard Road is Singapore's ritzy shopping district - there're Louis Vuittons across the street from Louis Vuittons.
SINGAPORE BOTANICAL GARDENS
A bit beyond the Orchard Road boundaries, however, it's worth mentioning here.
Botanic Gardens in Asia seem to be a bit of a misnomer. There's a small section dedicated to flowers, however, most of the "Garden" is a lawn with people engaged in park like activities - running, walking dogs, cricket, soccer, etc. Singapore's Botanic Gardens are no exception. Enter from the north after leaving the Botanic Gardens Metro Station it feels as if you've entered a large public area. There's lots of grass with few trees and no plants. Eco Lake has a few black swans. It's not until you reach the parks midpoint that you begin to discover a few garden dedicated areas. There's a holistic garden park sharing information on plants used to treat illnesses and other medicinal qualities. Passed the park's primary entrance there's a section dedicated to the Vanda Miss Joaquim, an orchid and Singapore's national flower.

I took a route that led through a rainforest section although I definitely prefer the Treetops walk in The Southern Ridges. I then passed a swan lake and a marsh area before making my way for the exit. I wasn't expecting much although from a locals' park perspective it's a nice setup. As a tourist destination I'm not sure of the allure of walking through a predominantly shadeless park. At the southern exit, I walked down Holland Road and soon caught a bus for a five minute ride to the Orchard Road area.
