Malibu. Pacific Palisades. Santa Monica. Venice. Marina Del Rey. Manhattan Beach. Hermosa Beach. Palos Verdes. Long Beach. Huntington Beach. Newport. San Clemente. Dana Point. Laguna Beach.
For me these beach towns were Los Angeles. Most people come to LA for the glitz and glamour but it's these residential beach towns that showcase SoCal life. I wanted to find something similar in Florida so I took at day driving up and down the A1A, aka the Gulf Coast Highway in search of local beach life.

PALM BEACH
Palm Beach may be the fanciest and most upscale of the Miami Beach towns. To experience the opulent life check out the iconic Breakers Palm Beach. Lunch is reasonably priced ($50 for two) and if you get your ticket validated parking is free - quite the deal.

BOYNTON BEACH
Boynton Beach is as local Florida beach town as it gets. There's a small commercial area and a rugged, wild beach.
DELRAY
Delray was as close to the SoCal beach towns that I could find. There was a similar commercial area, albeit, a half mile off the beach instead of on the waterfront and leading to a pier.

HOLLYWOOD
The best way, and really the only It kind of, sort of seems like Hermosa Beach from the photos but in person it was anything but. Limited dining options and a crowd where even the locals seemed like part timers did not leave a favorable impression.
