MALACCA
Malacca is an easy day trip south of Kuala Lumpur. Malacca was a former Dutch trading port later controlled by the English. As with all things controlled by the English in SE Asia, the Chinese quickly moved in and set up businesses, thus the town has a distinct Chinese feel. Perhaps it was the heat, perhaps it was that Malacca felt more like a “couples” place…I don’t know but I wasn’t a huge fan of Malacca. I liked it even less after visiting Georgetown, Penang which has retained more charm and culture than the quasi tourist trap Malacca. Maybe that’s too harsh an assessment but it will be a while before I’ll head back sometime to reassess.
