Fourth of July in Maine, whether it's in Bar Harbor or some other tucked away small time, is something all American's should do at least once. Celebrating the Fourth of July and watching fireworks in a small-town (vs. the big city celebration) is a quintessential American experience. A trick with Maine is to fly into Manchester, rent a car there, then drive from there.
The can't miss thing in Maine is lobster...obviously. Beyond that Maine is about getting away with nature and enjoying the outdoors. Acadia National Park is a great place for a bike ride. For more photos see: FLICKR PHOTO ALBUM. |

The Maine coastline has a beautiful ruggedness to it and I was constantly stopping to take photos.
That's a shot of Bar Harbor and the last two are the "bar" of Bar Harbor.
A shot of Bar Harbor's waterfront and the L.L. Bean factory store in Freeport.
Biggest regret of this trip was not spending a day or two in Portland. I was a relatively newbie explorer at this point and did not have too much disposable income to burn an extra day on a vacation.
