Lake Bled is a popular day trip from Ljubljana so naturally, instead of spending a day at Lake Bled with a bunch of other day trippers, I went a bit farther and headed over to nearby Lake Bohinj - which is about a thirty-minute bus ride away then requires a bit more walking once you arrive. I should say hiking, as the main attraction here is a hike through the Slovenian Alps to ascend Mt. Prsivec. This was one of my last stops on the 2013/2014/2015 around-the-world trip and my memory is a bit foggy on the details as I didn't write anything down and am now trying to recall this from memory.
I don't recall why I decided to tack on a hike to Lake Bohinj instead of simply visiting Lake Bled and calling it a day (or a half day). This hike started out well - beautiful lake, beautiful mountain.
I was trekking up to the peak of Mt. Prsivec. Cool mountain pond. Great views from the top.
Then no idea how to get back down. I did a loop hike and the trail just disappeared on the route back down. I thought, good thing I left early in the morning because this might be a bit of a disaster. I made my own trail down to Lake Bohinj and walked back around to the bus stop. Exhausting hike.
Vintgar Gorge is a short bus ride (ten minutes) and much easier in-and-out hike, only a mile round trip hike, compared to Mt. Prsivec.
Oh...and a few photos of Lake Bled.
