Kentucky was the first stop on the great cross country road trip of 2003. I started just across the river from Cincinnati in Covington. Cincinnati was a cool spot and just starting to go through a revival which I understand continues today.
From there I head south to Lexington - home to two unique attractions: Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Museum. You owe it to yourself to attend at least one of the Horse Racing Triple Crown races at least once in your life. With the drinking involved it's probably better to do it earlier than later. On the east coast the Preakness or the Belmont Stakes are easy to reach, however, if you're going to hop on a plane you may as well head to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby and plenty of mint julips. |
