HOME LOCATION DEEP DIVES
I lived in a Hong Kong hostel for six months. It drove me crazy when new travelers arrived, learned how long I'd been in Hong Kong, asked me for recommendations, and then, when I talked to them at the end of their trip, heard them say they didn't eat at any of the restaurants or see any of the sites I mentioned but rather went with bloggers' recommendations. Bloggers who weren't from Hong Kong. Hadn't lived in Hong Kong. Had only visited Hong Kong for a long weekend.
I've never seen a Philadelphia travel video on YouTube that accurately depicts Philadelphia. Same with Hong Kong. Same with Singapore. People who aren't from the destination do not know the best places to eat, the best neighborhoods, or the best of the beaten path attractions. Even my own brother, returns home to Philadelphia a few times of the year, and confuses me with where he wants to go - I ask why do you want to go there vs. here (my recommendation)? Because a blogger. Brutal.
