Philadelphia’s Callowhill neighborhood is close to everything but doesn’t have much worth visiting in the immediate vicinity aside from the microbreweries (Yards, Love City, Roy Pitz, etc.) that now occupy former industrial space along Spring Garden. W/N W/N Coffee Bar is another worthy, hipster type destination. I think the industrial vibe keeps this destination from reaching its full potential. The what if of all Philadelphia "what if's" is what if Philadelphia constructed the Phillies' stadium here instead of South Philly. It's a decision will haunt the city until that mistake is corrected.
What is a quarter mile long and take Philadelphia over twenty years to complete? The Rail Park. Inspired by New York City’s Highline, Philadelphia city planners decided to turn our own elevated rail lines into a public park. This has been a massive project and will the first results aren’t significant (the park is simply too small), it does provide encouragement that future sections may be completely in a timely manner. What I wish…is for the city to open assistance to volunteers. Let the people help make the city better. Most of the rail to park project is a cleanup that anyone can perform. Get some volunteers and let’s get the cleanup started.
The parks current entrances are in a quasi-no man’s land north of Chinatown and on North Broad. The areas feel sketchy but because this is a no man’s land it’s safe because there’s no one around.

The Julius Erving mural at 1226 Ridge Avenue is my favorite in the city. It's simple and elegant and wildly creative to put Dr. J in a suit rather than a basketball uniform.
